UNCOMFORTABLE ALLIES

Project Type

Life is polarity, it is made up of elements that provide opposite aspects to human life such as birth and death, construction and destruction, tranquility and fear. Fire and water are two of those components that polarize reality.
Uncomfortable Allies is a series of drawings made with a fine liner pigment ink pen on paper through which Celis intends for the viewer to reconnect with two fundamental elements of life. His artistic proposal is based on the analysis of the opposition and complementarity of the components, a recurring emphasis in his work.
Water is characterized by being a purifier of processes and a generator of life. It is vital for the planet and those who inhabit it. Furthermore, it is a vehicle in which beings, energies and emotions can travel.
Its sometimes ally and sometimes opponent, fire, helps maintain body temperature in certain places, is a tool to create artifacts, cook food and eliminate bacteria.
The moment these two elements come into contact, a harmonious and at the same time chaotic fusion appears that gives rise to the creation of a new element.
Through the various artistic pieces, the viewer goes through sensations of peace, hope, strength, fear, passion, tranquility, where sometimes water and fire come together without confrontation, and at other times they become opponents that eliminate each other. Thus, both change, at certain moments they provide vitality and at other times they generate catastrophes.
Just as water hypnotizes with the movement of sea waves, and fire draws attention with the flames of a campfire, this series hypnotizes the viewer through its lines and colors, where the individual's own thoughts flow, like the water, from relaxation. to agitation and cause, like fire, heat and shelter at times and at other times suffocation and helplessness.
