CONTAGION

Type of project

Watercolor based paintings.

This series of watercolors was born during the first weeks in which the covid19 pandemic hit. This time using a pointed steel tool, Celis guides the watercolor to create the organisms present in the paintings. The series consists of 48 small format paintings (each created during the first 48 days of the pandemic in the artist's life), and other paintings in larger formats.

What do people perceive about each other? What do they exchange between them? What flows through your words,
their looks and their actions? What spreads from one individual to another? What contagions occur in their interactions?
It is said that to infect is to transmit. So, what and how do humans get infected?

From the beginning of the pandemic, Celis began working on a series of watercolors, addressing those infections that
Sometimes they are imperceptible among people, such as emotions, attitudes, beliefs and why not, dreams.
and goals.

In this way, in each of the pieces in this series, the spread of fear, love, uncertainty, hope, sadness, joy, anger, as well as tolerance, racism, equality is represented. , respect, creation, destruction, proactivity and negativity.

It is through organizations that are linked to each other that I express my concern regarding the accelerated
transmission between humans, which I consider, today, is much faster and exponential due to the
social networks and media.

All of the above makes this proposal a reflective visual expression about what and how people are infected, what each person transmits to the other and the environment, and how each individual is a potential infectious agent.
So, what do we want to infect and what do we choose to infect?
